Medvedev had fought back to force a decider but ran out of steam as the Italian saw him off 6-3 6-7 (8-6) 6-3 in just under three hours.

Bellucci successfully defended a break point in the opening game of the match, and soon found his footing, going toe-to-toe with Medvedev and cruising through the first set.

However, Medvedev held his serve to take the lead in the second before getting his first break in the following game to race into a 4-1 advantage. Bellucci valiantly forced a tie-break though, even having the chance to take the match, but the Russian held his nerve.

Bellucci was made to work for the win, defending six break points in the first three games of the set, but after levelling the score at 3-3, Medvedev trailed off.

After claiming the scalp, Bellucci will face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Tallon Griekspoor, who was pushed all the way in three sets by Matteo Berrettini earlier on Wednesday.
